1960 AUSTIN HEALEY 3000 for sale

Price: $119,995
We are delighted to offer this truly incredible 1960 Austin Healey 3000. Not only does it possess the design elegance which Healeys are renowned for, but this example has been sensibly modified to create an example that combines breath taking performance with the addition of a 5-Speed gearbox providing the ability for effortless touring.

This is an original RHD car with its original engine still in place. The Heritage Trust Certificate confirms delivery to the UK originally in Ivory White and red interior. It now wears dark green paint over Old English White with tan interior, which is a spectacular colour combination. The paint is in excellent order with only a few small marks but that is being picky.

The history files with this car are unusually extensive and we can track its journey back to 1972. In the UK it had 7 owners before coming to Australia in 1995. During its time in the UK, it had been restored over a long period in the late seventies to mid-eighties. Records show it placed second in a Concours Event in 1986. Whilst in Australia it has had 5 owners. The current owner bought this car through us last year and owing to an unfortunate change in circumstance reluctantly needs to let the car go to a new custodian.

We know the previous owner well and he undertook a full restoration upon purchase in 2008. He was a long-standing member of the Healey community and had this car for 27 years.
A huge amount has been invested in this car to bring it up to the standard it is now, and it is a car that has been meticulously fettled to deliver exhilarating performance when asked but is reliable and perfectly at home touring extensive distances.
When he purchased the car in 2008 it was already a very good example with much time and money already invested in it. At this point he wished to create a competitive race car but once he started on that journey, he realised how good the car was and didnt wish to risk it on the track. He then decided to continue but make it a fast road Healey, which he achieved admirably. The work was finished over a 4-year period and since then the car has proven thrilling to drive and reliable too.
In summary the work involved included:

- Complete body strip, with any compromised metal replaced.
- Full repaint in dark green over Old English White
- Disc brakes all round (Willwoods to the front)
- Complete retrim in tan hide
- All electrics refurbished
- Full engine rebuild with triple 45 Webers and Denis Welch Motorsport Race Head (the head alone costs over $6,000) and inlet manifold. Forged race spec pistons, steel billet crankshaft and race spec con rods. Dennis Welch camshaft, rocker set and springs.

- Fitment of 5 speed Supra Gearbox with Jaguar clutch.
- High ratio steering box
- Aluminium sump

A full and extensive record of this work accompanies the car.
Once sat inside you are greeted by a dashboard that is simply gorgeous to the eye, and the cabin is simply a lovely place to be. All the gauges have been refurbished and like new. It has been reupholstered, and the tan leather seats are in excellent order and work so well with the colour of the car. These 100M race seats a rare and compliment the nature of the car so well.

New carpeting was also fitted finishing off the internal space perfectly.
Turn the key and you really know this engine means business. It starts easily and settles into an even idle. Out on the open road the car is just superb. Interestingly all the controls and inputs are easy to use. The clutch is not heavy; the brakes are even in their application and very responsive as is the steering underlining how sorted this car is.
The use of a Supra 5-speed gearbox is a common upgrade and is a delight to use and its easy to work through the gears.

When you want to push on this car really is a thrill. The throttle responsive is immediate and the induction noise from the triple Webers is addictive. It really does go and go and go. It would never fail to put a smile on your face.
The handling is impressive due in part to the fitment of Koni shock absorbers, 4-wheel power disc brakes and much investment in the suspension. The steering response is immediate and unusually good. The whole package is adds up to a car that is pin sharp in every respect.

To finish the car off perfectly it comes with a matching factory hard top, soft top, side screens and bags along with the tonneau, all of which are in excellent order.
In summary this original RHD matching numbers Healey is a truly special car. Its perfectly at home as a tourer; comfortable, practical with plenty of torque and power on tap. When you want to indulge in some spirited driving it delivers, in spades. This is one well appointed car with everything done and wants for nothing other than to be driven and enjoyed.

3 folders of documents and invoices supporting its detailed history accompany the car including original UK registration documents and MOT certificates. An owners handbook, sales brochure, workshop manual and book on the Healey story are also present. The car is freshly serviced and ready for its new owner. What a car!
